<p>sorry about us laggin on the posts but we havent forgotten about the plan, or our sareers ! i&#8217;ve continued with running/walkin to the gym in the super-hot-unhealthy weather hitting 109 degrees F, lol. A tip for anyone who decides to run such high temperatures&#8230;DONT RUN! lol trust me with the heat and the haze from the fires n all, i wasnt able to run more than 100yards and felt like i was gonna collapsed, so i power walked the rest. Skipped walking on friday and drove to the gym cuz it was too hot but walked today so its all good!</p>

<p>Its been a few days since the last post, but i wont disappoint you <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Since i skipped the fourth, i Worked out thru the weekend Saturday and Sunday!!</p>
<p>Started the week off good with today&#8217;s workout which consisted of chest, triceps, back, and abs! Ran to the gym as usual but this time i got my gym partner to run with me (Pali) and his brother (Jinder who gave up too soon!)  which was good cuz that means all three of us are helping save the world! so the polar bears can play in the snow for little more time woo hoo!</p>
<p>the workout was good, my bench went up to 165lbs, soon enough im hoping to get back up to 195..did a few new variations of triceps exercises ..we&#8217;ll be posting tips n excercises soon so stay tuned for that.</p>

<p>Happy belated 4th of july to everyone! i took a day off yesterday in observance of the holiday, and the fact that the gym closed at 4pm which is 2 hours before my scheduled time. AnnywhO today was &#8220;legs day&#8221; ooh yeaa, was a great work out even tho i hadn&#8217;t had much to eat so i was a bit drained after my run going into the workout. Ended it well sat in the sauna for 25mins, to help burn off that babyfat lol, then i had to walk home because my legs were so dead i started to run but couldn&#8217;t continue so i decided to take a fast paced walk home while i enjoyed the beautiful california sunset <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>I dont think I will be working out tomorrow, planing on studying for my midterm for monday, but we&#8217;ll see what tomorrow holds.</p>

<p>So today marked day 2, but today I had a test in my Bio class.  I couldn&#8217;t ride my bike to class or back and then proceeded to drive out of Riverside back to Fresno.  I did manage to do some intense cardio I was sweating pretty hard so I definitely got some work done there.</p>
<p>As for diet I only had water for breakfast (I&#8217;M SORRY) I will get on top of that soon enough, Lunch was a low fat f burrito, not the best idea but I drank some Gatorade.  For dinner I had some Chinese food with BROWN rice (Don&#8217;t eat white rice) and drank some water.  It&#8217;s a day with the girlfriend so food was eaten late and all those other bad things.</p>
<p>I will however be waking up at 8 am tomorrow and running in the morning to burn off today&#8217;s fat! ha ha</p>
<p>Once I get back to Fresno I will continue cardio and exercise and then Saturday and Sunday will probably be off as it is 4th of July weekend and all.</p>

<p>Today was day 2 of &#8220;Taking steps toward a healthier Sikh lifestyle&#8221; its good hard work thats paying off, slowly but surely.  I ran to the gym as planned and workout out day 2 of the routine which consisted of arms, shoulders, back, and stomach. I hit all the intended areas but concentrated on definition training for biceps and deltoids, which has really got me pooped. a great work out for today. im contemplating if i should go tomorrow, its the 4th, and the gym closes at 4pm i usually work out around 6:30ish. so we&#8217;ll see if i get up in the morning ill go if not ill take a day off. im plannin on working out at least 6 days a week.</p>
<p>the bad part about today&#8217;s Plan was that i didn&#8217;t run/walk home, i got a ride with my gym partner, i was just too tired to run back tonight, i had arrived at the gym at 730, i was an hour late, and finished up around 9pm and was too tired to run home, my partner had agreed to walk with my but then he remembered he drove there so that wasn&#8217;t going to happen. But anywho i&#8217;ll continue wit my running the next day i work out, that being either tomorrow or saturday.</p>

<p>So today it all begun, though I didn&#8217;t follow my plan perfectly but here is what I did complete.</p>
<p>I woke up and walked on full incline on lap 1, jogged lap 2, and ran lap 3 when suddenly the treadmill stopped working! but oh well it was an energetic start to the day.</p>
<p>On Mondays and Wednesday I have Art class so I can&#8217;t ride my bike to class, so I drove, but I plan on walking on Mondays and Wednesdays instead now.</p>
<p>I forgot to eat a breakfast meal! and just drank some Orange Juice and for Lunch I had a sandwhich (Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, cheese, and 4 slices of Smoked Turkey) and some orange juice</p>
<p>I had an early dinner (6 Pm) and ate the same thing along with some mixed vegetables and orange juice</p>
<p>I went about my day schooling it up, and eventually needing to study rode my bike 1.5 miles (I&#8217;m guessing) to Starbucks (I&#8217;m guilty of drinking a Starbucks passion fruit ice tea lemonade), the hardest part was riding back up the hill (HAD TO WALK AT ONE PART! SUCH A STEEP HILL)</p>
<p>I&#8217;m tired, I&#8217;m studying, I showered&#8230;</p>
<p>Day 1 wasn&#8217;t even perfectly executed and it was still hard =(</p>

<p>Hanji&#8230;.Today was my first official day working under oath..lol it was great, I woke up feeling great from yesterdays jog and enjoyed most of the day thru school and all <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' />   then came time for the 1.3 mile journey both ways uphill in snow all the way to the gym GB3! i had a running partner today, my cousin is down from michigan so we ran together. Once i arrived at the gym a little outta breath, alittle scared, alittle feelin great cuz i saved the world!&#8230;we started the work out plan&#8230;</p>
<p>Today was Chest, back, stomach, triceps day!   had a great work out pushed my max up a bit <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  feelin great about that&#8230;but ended up skipping stomach so i could run the same distance back home home in time for roti <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' />  ill pay for it tomoorow, promise. Running back home was sweet taking in the smooth sunset of fresno while the sky turned shades of pink and purple&#8230;mind the fact that there was plenty of smoke from the fires <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' />  but yet its okay as long as i wasnt driving home from the gym.  Oh yea i also got chased by a dog, it had a mean bark! got scared at first  but then when i turned around, haha, it was a measly chihuahua ( i duno about the spelling) but yea made it hope had some roti wit daal n gobi di sabji..mmm, which concluded my 5th meal of the day.</p>
<p>i hope i can keep this up, along wit ashveer and jasjit!  <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /><br />

<p>Hi, my name is Amarpal Dhaliwal, and I&#8217;m 22 years old. I live in good ol&#8217; Fresno California, home of the grapes/ raisins! <p>This site is dedicated to the Jakara Movement, and all its staff. I&#8217;d like to thank everyone who is involved with it for offering the youth such a great opportunity to grasp their roots. I&#8217;ve been involved with Jakara for four years now, and I love it, its become a part of life. I enjoy attending the annual conference as well as helping organize the regional children&#8217;s camps because it allows me to learn and at the same time give back to a cause that is helping our community reconnect with it self. For the past three years I had always attended the conference and learned a lot, but this year I was offered an opportunity to work at the conference, with this opportunity I got to see how much hard work, blood, sweat, and tears really go into pulling this conference together. This years topic was about our Gurdwaras, and what a Sangat is, how to achieve it, and what it consists of&#8230; After getting glimpses of presentations, speeches, and discussions I was inspired to make a change in our community. One thing that has bugged me for the past, seems like for ever, is that there is a growing amount of obese people in our community. So to help make a change along with my buddies Jasjit and Ashveer, we plan to launch this blog which will consist of the ways to get in shape physically and mentally. Along with our personal goals to achieving physical fitness we will also be listing the actions we are taking to help save our planet, Dharti Ma, from excess pollution, and harmful air quality.</p>
<p>So, ..Today July 1st, 2008 I plan to implement my plan to takeover the world!..lol Well its an attempt to help preserve the worlds beauty, along with using methods to improve my lifestyle that will lead not only to benefiting me but also allow me to spread awareness about a healthier lifestyle amongst other citizens in the community. Its a big day, I&#8217;m excited and hope that i can stay on track with my schedule, and routinely post update on my status.</p>
<p><span style="color:red;">My GOALS&#8230;: </span><span style="color:black;">[Which took quite some time to derive]</span></p>
<p>- I intend to regularly workout, and improve my workout routine so that I can achieve better results and get BIGGER, STRONGER, FASTER! While this will benefit me and myself I plan to help mother earth by using a different means of transportation to get to the gym. As of right now I plan on running/walking to the gym which is an estimated 1.3 miles from my house. I do live in Fresno, Ca so the heat will be an issue but I hope i can stick to this or I&#8217;ll come up with some other method of getting to the gym perhaps a bike? <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>- Along with sticking to a well thought out workout plan, I also will be implementing a healthier diet, and keeping a record of what I eat and at what times.</p>
<p>Thus far, these are my plans and I plan to stick to them until the end of summer, hopefully longer. I will be working along with my fellow better health seekers, Ashveer and Jasjit, together we hope to achieve our individual goals with the support and MOTIVATION of each other and the community.</p>
<p>I wish my comrades the best of luck in our better health ventures! And I hope that our doing so, will also lead at least one person to living a better lifestyle.</p>

<p>My name is Jasjit Singh Dhanoa and I am a 21 year old college student at UC Riverside.  I am currently studying Political Science and am thinking of either pursuing a career in teaching or pursuing a career in law. This is Sareer, and the following will describe the motivation, thoughts, goals and individuals involved.</p>
<p>This year marked my 6th Jakara Conference and I&#8217;ve got to tell you that it has been a life changing experience.  As every conference Jakara has introduced me to people I never thought I&#8217;d meet, I have expanded my horizons, changed my train of thought, learned from brilliant individuals who I can relate to regarding anywhere from divisions of the community to panthic awareness and by surrounding my self with good Sangat I hope to help the Panth in any way I can.  Jakara is put on by the youth for the youth, the Conference allows the youth to speak, and express themselves as they may not be able to otherwise.  My thanks goes out to all those who are responsible to putting this conference together and putting the amazing regional camps across California together and truly making a difference for Sikhi and inspiring the next generation of Sikh youth.</p>
<p>The topic was Gurudwaras (Growing with our Gurudwaras) and the point was to create the perfect Gurudwara.  Stemming from the Gurudwara discussion came about the importance of certain aspects of Sikh life, and for me that aspect included becoming a healthy and eco friendly Sikh.  Our Guru&#8217;s were eco-friendly, Sikhism is also a religion that stresses the love of everything around us as God is found in everything, mother nature is a form of God.. so what have we done to live up to our faith?   Gurudwaras use paper cups, plates, plastic spoon- things that can be replaced by steel and other reusable sources.   But these changes must be made by the youth, modern values that they can instill within the older community- such are the things learned at Jakara this year.  Taking into account the huge problem of blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease within the Punjabi Sikh community, this is our way to combat.  Guru Ji gave us these bodies and just as we are not to waste our bodies with alcohol, and drugs we should equally not fall into the realms of obesity and fat, as these are no ways of living a proper Sikh lifestyle.  </p>
<p>THE PLAN</p>
<p>- Ride a bicycle to campus, and around the area for local use</p>
<p>- Eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner (all on time) Eat last meal by 7 30 PM</p>
<p>- Run daily (trying to figure out if that&#8217;s going to be every morning or every night)</p>
<p>- Re start weight training</p>
<p>- Change the Gurudwaras! Paper Plates, Plastic Cups&#8230;bring in the STEEL!</p>
<p>What have I started so far?</p>
<p>I bought an excellent mountain bike for $300.  Is it worth the $300?? Yes, and I recommend it to all who want to start biking. (Don&#8217;t buy the cheap Wal-Mart bikes, they will BREAK!)</p>
<p>I quit drinking sodas, my main obsession was/is Coca Cola it has now been 1 week since I last drank Coca Cola.</p>

<p>The lifestyle changes have begun and once my routine is built I will begin posting pictures every 2 weeks (like you see in fat loss commercials), I will also include my body fat percentage, my body weight, pictures of biking, nature, and weightlifting and running plans and hopefully begin to make a difference.</p>
<p>These plans are intended for others to see the difference and follow what we are doing! So that we can help one another achieve these goals!</p>
